Hey, ya I am at the Far East Youth Hostel - you can reach me at 15810634528 - that is my local number. If you find a place to make a call - there is a nice little hole beside the hostel which costs less than 1 kuai for a local call. Let me know what you end up doing - maybe some beers around the hostel or something Saturday night?

That's annoying isn't it - probably everyone on here booking places there. The Far East Hostel is meant to be well recommended too. I'll download a map onto my netbook so it might be a bit easier to meet up later in the day. I'll PM you my UK number which I plan to use for first day or two until I can sort out a Chinese SIM card...

Hi Dave - yep I'm still staying at the Happy Dragon. My flight lands at 9am on 21st August and I'm arriving meeting up with another guy JamesB. What time do you touch down? If it's close in time might be worth meeting up. Safety in numbers and all that. If not, I'd hope to be at the hostel midday-ish...

Hey Dave, I think a few people are staying in the Happy Dragon Hostel in Beijing. I booked a hotel close to the airport as it was the same price as a hostel (as there's 2 of us and the price is per room) and a i figure I'll do little sight seeing the first few days. I'm gonna be at the Airport Garden Hotel. http://www.chinatravelkey.com/beijing/3-hotel/airportgarden.htm - it's reserved for me and payment on arrival, they're even picking me up from the airport for free, which is cool.


I'm definitely up for meeting up if you around. You gonna have a phone with you? I'll probably take a pay as you go sim out there, texts are 50p but it'll be useful for emergencies.

Well, I think I"ve seen a few people post things about staying in a hostel. You might want to check the discussions out, people seem to really plan a lot better than I do. I didn't really kick into gear until I got my inivtation letter and its just been a whirlwind since then. How was the 20 hour course?? I heard its pretty informative, so I'm looking forward to it, but still not really sure what to expect.

My flight arrives 8.05pm on 21st August (Sat i think) but I've booked the Airport Garden Hotel Beijing as it was the same price as hostels and only 2km away from Airport so now trekking around late at night one I arrive.
