Visa

Can someone clarify the procedure/process fro visa application.

I know your employer is I believed to sort out most for you.

Do I go to China on a visitors visa and then the work visa added to my passport when in China, or do I just get a work visa in England and that is enough to travel to China. I thought if I got a work visa here for the year then it would run out before I had completed my year contract.

Can someone who has gone through this process explain in simple terms/explanation please. Thanks in anticipation.

No problem. I did all the UK side within about 5 days, too, so I wouldn't worry about time unless you've literally got a day or two.

Also, yes you can get a one-day turn-around on your visa at the embassy, so long as you have a morning appointment (to my knowledge).

Thanks Filter Angel with your comments and a phone call from China this morning things are much clearer.

Cheers

Asif, thanks a lot for that that makes things clearer although I will have to stay at the embassy all day and wait if that is possible as time for me is getting short. Cheers again Dave

I think filterAngel is correct - that is the procedure that my Wife and I are currently going through.

My school arranged a document to say I was going to be working for them, which was processes by their local office, stamped, and sent to me in England.

I then took this to the embassy in London where I was granted a Z visa (after paying some money and waiting a few days), which was then posted back to me along with my passport to my home address.

When I then got into China, my school changed this Z visa into a residency permit at the local police station (after a week of waiting I could go pick it up) allowing me to stay for a full year.

I know some people have done this differently and almost certainly more efficiently (in terms of my waiting times), but this is my account of my experience, and I hope it helps.
