I am a restless Midwestern girl from Kansas City, Missouri, USA who LOVES to travel and meet new people. We are known for our fantastic BBQ, jazz music, southern hospitality, college basketball and football, and conservative values to name a few. In the past year I have travelled to Germany, Austria, Switzerland, New Orleans for Mardi Gras after the Saints Superbowl win, and most recently Las Vegas for a friend's wedding. I graduated college in 1999 with a Bachelor's Degree in Interior Design with a minor in photography. I currently work in high-end residential architecture as a drafter and project manager and have for the past 7 years. Although my time there has been educational, my true calling has been travel and leading others. So what better way to do that than to teach English abroad in Thailand?!? I enjoy meeting people from other countries and immersing myself in their culture. I find different languages, music, food, customs, manners, scenery, and dress simply fascinating!! I once read that countries make treaties, but people make peace. I truly believe travel is our global responsibility to learn about and from one another. Because I am a Westerner, I feel I have alot to learn.

Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountwow that is awesome!!! I am in contact w a couple girls on the internship now that I should be on, one girl says her apt is pretty nice and so is her school, but some others....its a different story. But I know when they got there the town was flooded so they had to figure out what to do with everyone kinda last min but I hear the internship is supposed to be better since you are not TOTALLY alone and housing is included.
I hope to make it over there again for the experience
I spent a month there last yr, my pic was taken in ko tao!!
Yes maam!! KCMO! Well...the suburban area anyways. I have heard of St. Teresa's too! And you are right about our BBQ!!! I think the city favorite is Oklahoma Joe's which actually fed President Obama when he came to visit this past year. I wish there was a way I could get that stuff shipped overseas without spoiling. LOL!
So cool to have found somebody from KC on here and planning to go to Thailand too. I am saving money as well so I can afford to travel to some other countries after my gig is up. I only plan to teach for 6 months and travel for 2. I am actually meeting my travel agent in an hour to discuss an Around the World ticket. It's actually cheaper to travel this way as opposed to buying each leg separately while abroad. She can help me with the visas as well.
I actually know a girl from Chicago who is on the internship right now. I keep in touch with her on Facebook as well and it sounded like they kinda scattered all of the teachers into the wind once they arrived in Bangkok. It sounded scary, especially considering it's an intership and they plugged some of them in to schools where they spoke no English whatsoever. She actually recommneded to me to NOT go thru an agency to get a job. So I think I will wing it once I arrive and hope to be employed within a few weeks.
I think it was wise of you to save some $$. It sounds as though Thailand doesn't pay alot $$ to teach English, but we aren't going to become rich, are we? So the money I am saving now will hopefully help me to travel to other parts of Southeast Asia while there.
So glad to have met you on here!! We will def have to keep in touch and exchange information. Good luck!!

ah how I miss Gates BBQ....sigh!!!! NYC has some amazing food but NOTHING touches gates!!! Or Winsteads lol
Hi there
You are from KCMO? OMG so am I.....I live in NYC now but I was born and raised there went to St teresa Academy. I was supposed to be in Thailand for the internship right now but I got a job offerr in the city (after being out of work 2 yrs so I decided to take it and save money in order to travel more (as I am addicted to travel as well)
Am looking to be in Chiang Mai, Thailand in late January/early February 2011. All research I have done so far on numerous websites has proven that securing a job before I go is pretty risky as most schools don't deliver on what they promise thru an emai. They say it is better to secure a job once you arrive so you can actually tour the school, meet your co-workers and ask their advice on how the school runs. Am a little nervous about this. Will be doing some volunteer work in the meantime in a nearby village to Chiang Mai. I still have some hours left to complete my 140-hour course but am confident I will finish in time.
