Korea Where to teach? and Public VS Private ? :S

Currently looking at places to teach in korea and needing some avdive hopefully from some experts.

Just got on to the EPIK programme out there however sadly this year they stopped taking on joint applications so me and my boyfriend where wanting to teach in the same place which is very unlikely with a public school!(which is a massive shame :( but oh well this will not stop us on our TEFL request)

Anyway we are finding alot of job offers for couple positions in the Hangwon schools the hours are not as good but they still lookn promising and are something we are very interested in.

I am posting this for a little bit of advice really on the hangwon schools and if anyone has expierenced them ?? or if anyone knows of anyone good to contact schools names if possible rather than recruiters as there is sooo many out there however any advice would be good?????

Also we have been offered a place in a school in JINJU???Wanted to know if anyone had been or knew anyone who had been?

Any other places or advice would be really helpful as we are both document ready now, so now just looking or the right position :D

THANK YOU fellower TEFLERS you are always a fountain of knowledge and my first port of call

Hey Mahalth,

I was actually trying to get in touch with you bug couldn't figure out how you message people on here.

Thanks for the reply to the post.

Both Dean and I have our documents ready to go so now its just a case of finding the right place. We got on the EPIK programme and have been debating it for the past week. Even though we really like the respectabilty and the hours are better as we do want to teach in the same area its difficult.

With it being our first time teaching away EPIK seemed appealing as you hear alot of negative things about the private schools which is why this chalkboard is really useful for us to speak to people like yourself :D

We were actually looking into Deajeon for a while so iit would be great if you could ask about or even if you know of any well known school names out there. If we can get advice off people its all helpful as obviously its a huge step moving out there and we want to get it right. However Korea looks amazing so very excited to get out there. :D

Mahalath thank you for all the help

Hey! I have worked in two hagwons, and I really like it. I chose it over working for EPIK for a few reasons. But anyways, it isn't as terrible as a lot of people make out, and you have a lot more choice on location etc. Jimju looks interesting, but I've never been there (although I have eaten their bibimbap). It's an hour and a half from Busan, which is great, but will mean it's a long way from Seoul. It's also quite small (only 300,000 people or so, I know it sounds huge, but that's small for Korea). Looks pretty though!

For hagwons, before you start looking for positions, you really need all your documents sorted. If you have that, I can ask around in Daejeon and Cheongju if you wanted to be there. If not, I recommend finding a facebook group and posting a message on the lines of "I've got all my documents, does anyone have a job?".

Hey! That's great you're looking to teach in South Korea, not jealous at all...

You may want to speak to these two members who are currently teaching in South Korea, so I'm sure would be able to give you some advice!
