Hey all,
So I have been trying to figure out the easiest way to get a job in Japan with just an associates degree. It seems it's alot easier to get a work visa if you have a bachelors degree apparently. I've looked into the Jet program http://www.jetprogramme.org/ (which also requires a bachelors) and the Celta Certificate (http://www.cambridgeesol.org/exams/teaching-awards/celta.html).
I also looked into getting the TEFL cert. (http://www.teflcorp.com/) and even talked with one their contacts and they told me that you can actually get a job there with their certificate and not a bachelors but it's just harder, but can be done. They actually have a job placement program as well, but I don't belieave they can use it for japan unless you have a bachelors as well I believe but they do give you a contact list.
Getting my bachelors isnt totally out of the question, it's just that I will more than likely have to get student loans and such rather than just finishing with my associates since my parents are paying for my schooling. I would hate to have to get into debt if it is avoidable, unless for some odd reason I can find a job with instrumentation work in japan and can go that route.
In the mean time I'm checking out japanese language and history books just to prepare myself for whats to come and hopefully give me some sort of advantage.

Hey Cody,
Sorry to be the bearer of bad news, but you do need at least a bachelor's degree to teach in Japan. This is government requirment in order to get your working visa work legally so there's not really any way around it unfortunately. For more information you might want to chat to Paul who teaches in Japan at the minute: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/pdixon
All is not lost though! There are loads of great places you can teach without a degree, such as China, Indonesia and the Czech Republic. There's a handy list here that might help you: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/travel-guides/135-Do-I-Need-a-Degree-to-TEFL-
Any questions let me know - but I'd be wary of any course provider who's promising you a job in Japan and may not be able to deliver!
