Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHow are things going? I should be starting in Cheonan on the 15th June in a Hagwon school...so nervous. I shall watch out for the Americans with beers, lol. I'm more for the culture and food than the party life. You say you'd like to continue learning Korean...I guess that means you know a bit already. I only have the basics and even then I'm not sure if I'm saying it correctly but I'm sure someone will correct me when I'm out there. So anyhow I'm about to work out the packing side of things since I have 10 days left and prove to my Dad that I can get everything into my rucksack.
Keep me updated...it'll be great to know how things are going for you.
Thanks for that getting money together at moment, and saving some for first few months. Hope to be going at end of June Hagwon teaching of course and hoping for somewhere out of Seoul, would love a country town because I'd like to continue with learning Korean and dont want to be caught in the party/pisshead trap. Beware of Americans carrying beers lol! Too old too wise and want to enhance things by taking CELTA or DELTA then B ed. You enjoy yourself, please dont get caught up in the American/Canadian drinking scene and get to know the culture. If you have a complaint please do not bring up past events (that offends) be respectful of older people please remember the language relies on assumed knowledge! There's no point saying I thought you'd be here at ten when they arrive at ten past... you know that and so do they... anyway have a ball, you will enjoy it, learn some language. It's a beautiful country and I'm desperate to start things off. Well at least you'll look back on things and say you've tried it! Good luck to you and maybe meet you sometime
Keep in touch I would love to know how you get on
Hello,
I don't know if you could call me an expert...I've only just started this myself, lol. But you'll need: Your original degree, 2 or 3 sealed transcrips -I say 2 or 3 beacuse some recruitment agencies ask for 2 and some ask for 3 - with the Uni stamp and logo on the back. They'll also need to be signed by the person who sealed it and have clear cellular tape over stamp and signature. Mine took a week to come through the post and cost me £5 per transcript (I guess the cost would depend on the Uni). You'll also need a photocopy of the information page of your passport, an updated CV, a signed contract, six passport sized photos, a police check, and a signed health statement form.
The police check is a basic disclosure that is issued by the police and costs £10. It will depend on where you live, but I got the form from West Mercia Police website. You'll need to print it off, fill out the boxes then post it. This whole process can take up to 40days. (I'm still waiting for mine)
Once you get the basic disclosure, you'll then need to get an Apostille stamp on it to legalise the document, issued by the Foreign Affairs Office: www.fco.gov.uk/legalisation . Their stamping office in based in Milton Keynes. You can either get it done by posting the documents (takes a few days) or go in person (usually done the same day).
I hope this helps...I have yet to get the criminal check back. I would also suggest you sort the criminal check first as this takes the longest. When do you plan on going?
Let me know how it goes,
Emily.
