Chalkboard is i-to-i's TEFL community.
It is currently still in testing phase which could mean you find the odd bug!
Q: What is i-to-i Chalkboard? A: It's the online community of TEFL specialists i-to-i.com

I am a graduate of art college in Dublin, holding an honours degree in Fine Art Sculpture (1st, NCAD, 2009).
I intend to move to Germany, preferably Berlin, in 2011 and I am considering training to teach English there to increase my job opportunities.
My favourite grammatical case is the dative, and I am leading a campaign for its reintroduction to English after approximately 700 years' absence.

I´m afraid neither of them did a TEFL course. one´s a former TV anchorwoman (from the USA) and one´s from Northern Ireland and I don´t really know what kind of qualifications she had.
But I have an Irish friend living near me who did "that" TEFL course. She´s self employed and very busy tutoring students and preparing them for their exams and leaving certs. And she had a lot of offers for jobs in language schools.
She even wrote an English grammar book especially for foreign learners, thanks to her "TEFL experience".
Sorry, have to log out now. School is waiting...
If you need more infos.....you know, don´t hesitate.
Bye for now

Super, just posted my answer to you on my profile.....
Okay then!
Hi Ian
The weather here in Germany is pretty much "Irish" at the moment, so you might think twice about moving to Berlin. ;D
I know two native speakers in my area who teach English at private language schools. Neither of them had experience. So if you have all or most of the aquired qualifications (a TEFL-course helps a lot) but no teaching experience... give it a try.
Send your applications to private language schools like "Inlingua" or "Volkshochschule".
Bigger companies sometimes seek for In-House teachers for their employees. But they would be more in the Stuttgart/Munich/Duesseldorf/Frankfurt area.
I´m teaching English conversation at a private Catholic school in the greater Stuttgart area. I didn´t apply for this job, it´s volunteer work and they just asked if I could do it.
You have more questions? Don´t hesitate to write again.

p.s.: A TEFL-course is a good thing to start with! Especially if you don´t have other "teaching" qualification!

Hi Ian,
No probs - these might be good people for you to chat to - they're both based in Germany:

I think your best bet might be to contact language schools directly to ask what kind of qualifications they need - you'll soon get a good idea of what the demand is like.
Good luck with it all!
Hey,
Welcome to Chalkboard! Glad you're a fan of the dative too - always my favourite one while doing Latin :)
That's great you're thinking of getting TEFL certified in preparation for your move to Germany - have you thought about which course you'd like to do? To get you started on the site you should chat to some of these people who are based in Germany: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/users?login=&country_id=77
Enjoy Chalkboard and if you have any questions get in touch!
