About Me

I work for i-to-i TEFL Australia (i'm the one with the funny English accent).
I'm originally from Leeds, England. I've spent time in New York, Thailand, Fiji, Malaysia, Singapore, Hawaii and New Zealand as well as most of Europe. After spending 8 months travelling around Australia I finally swapped the backpack for a wardrobe and now live in Melbourne.
It's amazing talking to so many people each day and hearing about all their TEFL plans.... all the excitement of planning to live abroad, meet new people, learn new languages and do something more than just pass through a country is infectious!
If you're planning your journey and want to gain your TEFL qualification or have 101 questions you can call the Australia office  on 1300 88 50 36 or 0800 850950 from New Zealand.

Using A TEFL Course To Volunteer: Clarice's Story

One of our Australian tutees, Clarice, decided to get her TEFL qualification with i-to-i and headed for an adventure overseas. She had an unforgettable time teaching English in Uganda; experiencing the culture and getting to know the local community and falling in love with Africa. Here she shares her story: “Nearly a billion people entered the 21st century unable to read a book or sign their names.” This shocking fact really inspired me to do...

Hi Claire!

I would really like to gain a TEFL qualification and move to settle in Australia, like yourself. Can you give me any hints or tips that will enable me to reach this goal? Any comments would be greatfully received!

Many thanks

Helen

Hi Claire. Just sending you a quick invite to the North District Social Club. A social club in northern Hong Kong for English speakers.

Click here for the tefl-chalkboard group, or here for the Facebook group (has over 240+ members)

Hi Claire! All the language skills has given me a bit of an edge to TEFLing, and hopefully can be put to good use. During the weekend TEFL course we had a lesson in basic Spanish and that was a really big eye-opener. Thanks for your lovely comment. :)

gday claire. the travel plans are still ticking along, with the usual savings hiccups along the way. Im having to push my departure date back a bit but im heading over to Wollongong in the meantime. Cheers for the help on the phone when i first signed up. I think it was you i spoke to, if not, another pom.

take it easy

Good morning Claire, just a quick note to ask how the weekend went in Melbourne? Did you get class together?  Cheers

Robyn

Thanks for the info Claire, it was a far off chance to work TEFL in Oz. But ill just go with my first plan and do whatever work that'll keep me travelling around Australia for a year!! Really enjoying my teaching so far hope it stays this way for the next 6mths!!

Hi Claire,

So Im currently in China and have just started my first tefl job it's going great so far. I'm on a 6month contract here and in June next year I am coming to Australia. I have my flights and working holiday visa already sorted. Just wondering how easy is it to get tefl work In Oz, I hadn't even realised i-to-i had an office in Australia, but Im now very excited that they do!!!

Hi Claire,

I've always loved the idea of travelling and have considered doing a tefl. I'm from england too, by the way. Hope the antipodes is treating you well. Is it actually possible to get English teaching jobs in australia?

Hi Claire,

I was wondering what the new course (140) hours has to offer that is different to the 120 hour one I just completed. Can you purchase the extra modules etc and add them to existing courses? What is the Resource Pack that is being advertised?. I only have half of the teaching large classes module to complete before I am finished and even though I will be glad to have completed it I am interested in learning more, is there any way that we can get a copy of the assignments we have submitted and also will I have access to the resources once I finish the last module?  Cheers robyn. PS hope you had a happy easter.
