Check Point 3 - Attempt 3 - EEEK!

Submitted my last attempt today and passed - HOORAY!!! Got very stuck on Question 25.. but after sitting down and reviewing it many times, I finally achieved it.

I never realised how hard English can be before I started studying it in depth. So many rules, and just as many exceptions to those rules, I feel very privleged that I'm a native English speaker!!!

I agree, you need to state why they have made this mistake, and how you could fix it. Perhaps prompt the student to fix their own mistake?

I don't think the error is with 'people'. Focus on the verb instead and, more specifically, why they might have used that particular form with the word 'people'.

Thanks for the help guys, what I meant to ask was a question from checkpoint 3 The answer was "The people was very kind."  I had to say what type of mistake this was.

@ TEA578: I think you've got your words mixed up. I've never come across a student using 'people' when they meant 'person'. They tend to use 'person' and 'persons' rather than 'people' (which is an irregular plural). I don't think there is a specific term to describe this error though.

umm... plural? hahha I'm not sure what you mean! Is there a particular question you need help with? Perhaps I can help with that?

Hi can anyone help me?  I have been searching for the term when a student uses people instead of person as they probably dont use person in their language.  I cant find it anywhere... Any help???

Feel like I am cracking up these days.

Thank you very much for your help......must have had a mental block......I can see it clearly now thank you

Question 30 took me a couple of attempts too! You have to think why the student made the mistake. As they are of an elementary level and not a beginner, perhaps they are able to fix their own mistake. This is what i wrote, hope it helps!

Perhaps a slip of the tongue or a mother tongue interference.
I would encourage the student to fix their own mistake, focusing on the ending.
Use similar words such as: talked.
Show that the word is pronounced "WAR-K-T", where the "ed" sounds similar to just "t", when pronounced properly.

Failed mine on question 30 ....hope they don't make me give up ...not sure what procedure is if you fail

Me either! I did the highest level of English study throughout all my schooling and then all this came into place!! :L :L

Congratulations Claire!

Great to see you cracked it in the end. I felt the same when I started my TEFL course, I did English Language A Level thinking I'd done all the analyzing of language there was to do- but oh no! It's really rather fascinating though isn't it!

Great to see your enthusiasm and keep me posted as to how you're getting on!

Take care,

Erin

I know! I didn't even know phonemes existed. I don't even think we learned them in school, well I didn't anyway. I second that, I'm glad I am a native speaker. Now I know why so many people say English is hard to learn.
