Update on my Plans and a Good Suggestion to Find TEFL Work

I'm rather excited about my stroke of genius (it doesn't happen often) ok, seeing as I am already living in a small town in Spain, I have decided to go up to the ayuntamiento (town hall) once I have completed my 100hr to find out if I would be able to hold English lessons there! If it's a no then i'm going to ask some local bars.
Seeing as I have no money whatsoever and they are always crying out for English teachers in these small towns it should be minimum cost for me. This, I aim to be a temporary thing until I can get some money together to move on to Granada. I can also search of work while working, get some much needed experience and fatten up my skinny C.V!
I know of a woman who did something similar in a tiny town and I mean TINY until the town hall decided to renovate the office she was using but until then she was successful.
Before I even considered teaching English out here I was advised to go to the local primary school to teach after school, I was unable to at the time but they were desperate for an English teacher this could also be an option for anyone searching. Generally Spanish parents are very aware of how important English or any extra study time is for their children and are willing to pay to enrich their children's English skills.

I'll keep you updated on how it goes. Has anyone else found work this way? I'd really like to know how it went, where you were etc.

Bye for now, I am going to design some flyers ;)

Hi Chloe

Your ideas are very much like what I have been thinking of.

I live in Bulgaria, and there are local village schools and kindergartens which don't have English teachers at the moment.

As I have no teaching experience (and as yet have not signed up for a TEFL course) I thought I would just volunteer at first to see if I can get some experience behind me, but also offer an hour or 2 a week in the local bar for adults to try it for free, and see how popular it is.

There is a language school in the town which I might be able to get into once I have experience I think, or I am looking at teaching online also.

Good luck with your research :) Oh and how did you find the 100hr course?

Nikki

Wish you luck! Always be careful :) I'm sure you'll find work soon!

Yes, it really is too small, but thank you so much for your advice I'll be keeping it in mind. I don't plan on hanging around here too much longer I need to experience the big city lifestyle so thanks! :)

Just an idea, but on my last day in Ecuador, in the taxi to the airport in fact, the taxi driver suggested that I could go round hotels, where it's often useful for staff to speak English, and the taxis that often worked for those hotels also. He reckoned it'd be a dead cert.  Is your town too tiny for tourists?

Sounds great :) Good luck!!!
