What you need to take.

Being a new one here and still training, I have been looking at the amount of information I'm collecting in my training and becoming a little unsure of what I actually need to take and what I don't, when I do begin a new job overseas.

I'm not sure if there is a list of things one needs to take and how much...luggage weight in mind.

If there is, I'd love to hear from anyone.

The second part to this is, is there a list anywhere of the processes required for visas, medicals, insurance and all those other things one must have in place before embarking on their teaching experiences?

I would be most grateful for any information, and I guess anyone else who is a newbie would also

find it useful as well.

Cheers

Thank you so much for the links Honor, I appreciate that so much. I added a comment on your blog too, for anyone interested in a couple of tips.

Cheers

Hey Sanne,

Wow, you're super prepared! With visas and medicals it just depends on where you're teaching as Indonesia will have different rules to China. If you're into Indonesia and are looking for places to teach you might want to give our partners there a go: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-jobs-abroad/tefl-jobs-in-indonesia.html

In terms of what you need to take with you, this article might come in handy: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/honor/posts/1391-dont-forget-the-chocolate-7-essentials-to-pack-for-your-tefl-adventure

Good luck!

Thanks Rin, Good advice. I am not sure if I will go to China yet or Indonesia....there is a big pull for me to go to Indonesia but I need to find a school there first....anyone with ideas on a good school to work in, Im listening.

O lucky you Steve....when I lived in NZL mossies avoided me like the plague..but I was definitely a sand-fly magnet. I dont know which is worse. However when I arrived in Oz 9 years ago....I found there was a very different breed of mossie here....and unfortunately, they like my kiwi blood hahaha. Alas, I have the same problem in Jakarta.

Thanks so much for the help guys, really appreciate it.

I have already had my Hep and Typhoid and pneumonia vacs...got them last year when I went to Bali.... and done the malaria one too for Indonesia....there are LOTS of 'mossies there....so anyone intending going to Jakarta, get used to insect repellent.

Cheers

Hi Cheeky =]

Where are you going to teach again?

In China a lot of teachers I know, come over on a tourist visa, then do their medical in China. You will have to do another even if you get one done in your home country anyway. Then they travel to Hong Kong to change the visas to Z work visas.

On the whole a lot, lot cheaper than in your own country.
