My two passions in life are travelling and kickboxing and I have been doing both for a long time.
I want to travel to South America next year and I have just started Spanish lessons to help me prepare for this.
I want to do a TEFL course so I can get a job as a teacher. I want to be a teacher in South America for three reasons:
So I can learn Spanish
So I can earn money to save for travelling
So I can experience the real way of life in a country that has a completely different culture to mine

long but detailed info.
Hey, the address is http://www.puntonorte.cl/voluntarios/ if you search on google it comes up as one of the first options.
A lot of companies seem to try and charge you more to do open doors. From what I can see, you can do it directly through puntonorte themselves. I have had more of a look at this now and they charge you $100 per month to cover your health insurance and then they pay you at the end of the program, so you'd have to have savings to cover you until that point. Your food and accomodation is covered in a homestay but you can opt to have pay instead to cover those costs yourself and get yous own place. It is really annoying that they pay you at the end, but I guess that means that they definitely get people finishing the program rather than quitting halfway through and travelling.
I am having a bit of trouble saving at the mo so my plans have all been put on hold! I have almost finished my TEFL course though so at least I will have that done soon. I'm itching to go but I need a better paid job to save first!
Hey, I'm currently looking at teaching English in Central/South America next year too! Doing furious research right now and trying to work out where etc. So far I've found out that Chile has a good program called open doors, but that the Spanish is REALLY hard to understand. Argentina looks amazing, my personal fave at the moment, BUT it looks expensive as jobs may be hard to come by and don't pay that well, so I'll have to work on some serious savings if that is an option. Mexico, the Spanish is slower and easier to understand but has a lot of american influences and americanised Spanish words, a mate of mine has lived there for a couple of years so I'm going to get a lot more info from her. Erm, that's as far as I've got! I've got a couple of other mates who have travelled/lived in South America so I'll plug them for info too. I'll let you know if i find anything useful!
Hi!
I took the 120 hour course with i-to-i. It was necessary to have the certificates to get my visa but the school was more interested in my prior experience which I had a fair bit of for a 22 year old.
When I arrived I workd as an editor on english textbooks which was really well paid. This was through a contact of my gf. It seems to be a lot about contacts!! When you arrive, get involved in lots of expat clubs and schmooze schmooze schmooze! A certificate or course is helpful but for me, the most important things have been my CV and the contacts that I have built up.
Hope it helps and goodluck!Jack :)
