My husband and I are both educated and have just recently considered teaching abroad. However, we have 4 children. Has anyone done this and transplanted their family to another country?
Chalkboard is i-to-i's TEFL community.
It is currently still in testing phase which could mean you find the odd bug!

Hi; I took my children to Moscow in 1991 as a trailing spouse but got work in the Anglo american School. My kids had a great time there; we then went to Prague and finally Budapest. In my experience the benefits of taking kids by far outweighs that which you think they will miss at 'home'. They were in International schools where they were well educated and developed more open mindedness. My daughter went on to take the International Baccalaureate back in Uk and now lives in Italy...teaching English! The circle of life. Briona is right though, the International Schools are the best bet if you can do it. Good luck.
There's a good blog entry here: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/geddes2011/posts/5991-snakes-and-spit about teaching in China with Children.
Hope that helps!
@Briona: You're correct. I've forgotten that very important fact. International Schools prefer single academic subject teachers over standard TEFL instructors (which anyone can essentially do). Since the TC didn't really give much information about what they do, I simply offered my best choice for people teaching with families.
Much harder to get into, but worth it after you get hired!
@ ShiningT1g3R: Don't confuse International Schools with private language schools. To teach at the former you need to be a qualified primary (elementary) or secondary (high) school teacher in your own country, as you will be required to teach either the British or American school curriculum. If you want a career in TEFL, you will be working for private language schools.
The Internationals Schools sytem (www.iss.edu) is your best bet. They take care of families (as they know most teachers are married and/or have kids), so they offer more benefits than language schools, regular schools, or universities. The Middle East pays the most and offers tuition-breaks if children attend the same school that the parents teach in, so it's something to consider.
I know it's something I'll be looking forwrd to sometime down the road...
