Hmm, you occasionally see summer jobs advertised online, but they are usually for people already in country. Most schools are closed at this time so there are many teachers with free time and a lot go and work at these 'summer camps'. Bare in mind they are not what we would call 'summer camps', they are generally intense English teaching schools that last for a month or so. It may be in the kids city or just outside. Most likely they will go home every evening.
I am not sure about finding one from there.. of course you probably would not get a working visa for such a short time, so I am not sure how that would work out. Also, there would be very little chance of getting your air fare back and you said you will be on a tight budget? The pay is generally okay and you may get between 8,000 and 10,000 RMB for the month and free accomodation. However, your air fare would cost nearly this much, no?
I would advise against it unless you plan to stay here afterwards. I came here in June and started my contract in August. I got a work visa in Hong Kong and essentially could have gone to work in a summer camp before starting my contract if I wanted... as I had the correct visa. Some adverts say you can work on a business or tourist visa.. as it is not real work. This is not the case, it is real work and you would be in trouble if caught working on the wrong visa. My friend was fined and deported.
Maybe you could look at taking on a one semester contract? Though the times you stated were not in line with this I know. A semester would run Sept - Jan or Feb - June approximately. You would also likely get the cost of a one-way ticket reimbursed.
Good luck!
Thanksfor your help Rozel, I have contacted Rin!
Hi Catherine,
School holidays in China run from July through to September, but there are often Summer camps running for students. Not sure where is best to look - I saw a lot of things advertised whilst I was living on China, but wouldn't know where to begin looking from here - which is why I signed up for the internship! There are lots of poistions advertised online, just need to be careful about contracts. I know Rin (on this site) organised a job for herself and is now in China teaching. Good luck!
