Thailand Floods...

So, Thailand is currently experiencing the worse flooding they have seen in half a century and the house I am supposed to be living in, in Bang Yai, Nonthaburi District, Bangkok is currently under a metre of water. Not the worse and Ayutthaya has had it much worse but still... It's definitely leaving me a little anxious. Up to 300 people have died in Thailand so far because of the floods. It's very sad.

By the time I get to Bangkok, the wet season should have ended and hopefully the flooding will have subsided but still. My thoughts and prayers are with everyone in Thailand at the moment who have been affected.

I really like these journalism photos of the floods so far:

Gotta love the community spirit amongst the Thai people. :)

I know, the news leaves me broken-hearted =( They seem such a kind country filled with such good people, it's just not fair that this happens to them. It's also another reason I aspire to go there more than ever. I of course may not be able to fix the problems with their floods and water, but simply to be able to give back to the country in some way would be so meaningful.

Hi Cassie!

I felt really weird when looking at these photos, because despite the horrible circumstances behind them, they are amazing photos to look at aren't they? The community spirit and bravery should definitely be applauded.

We heard from Masako, who is our partner in Thailand, that central Bangkok is well protected and is doing OK, the traffic was moving etc (that's not normal in Bangkok!) but outside of Bangkok the situation is worse in many places. It is so sad and after the floods are gone, there is still so much work to be done.

By the way, whilst I'm writing this, for anyone who might be worried about the Thai Internship at all, Masako has been in touch to say that everything is fine, some affected schools pulled out of the internship and our interns have only been sent to areas where their safety will not be compromised by the floods. We'll be keeping in touch with the schools who have pulled out, as they'll be needing help more than ever. We have teams on the ground who can provide updates for us and give support.

Thanks for sharing Cassie, I'm sure you're itching to get out there and get going now more than ever aren't you?

Katie
