A graphic designer fancying a career change, I completed the 120hr TEFL course in August 2009. I thoroughly enjoyed it but was keen to further my skills, not least to get some real teaching practice. In March 2010 I completed the CELTA in Spain (achieving a Pass A) after which, I spent the summer working in Vietnam. I then spent nine months living and working in the north of Portugal, and I'm now teaching in the south of Poland.

Hi Briona, I have just read a few of your posts about teaching in Portugal, very interesting! My boyfriend and I are planning to leave the UK the end of April and look for teaching jobs in Northern Portugal. My parents live in a tiny village about 40minutes from Coimbra so I have a bit of knowledge but I just wondered if you have any advice for me. I have my tefl certificate (120hr with i-to-i), I have a British passport and I don't have a degree. My boyfriend is currently completing his 120hr course, he has an Australian passport and does have a degree. Neither of us have any teaching experience yet. We would be happy to look for work in Coimbra, Figuera da Foz, Aveiro, Viseu.... Anyway around that area, we intended on contacting schools directly, do you think this is the best way? Can you recommend anywhere in particular? I look forward to hearing from you! Daisy :)
Thank you so much for your reply! I had read a few bad opinions of Poland which scared me a bit, but I'm glad to ehar such a positive review!
Hi there!
I'm new to TEFL and am considering teaching in Poland when I complete my course. I was reading your blog posts, which are really interesting and helpful, and I was wondering if you would recommend Poland to a newbie? (I am visiting there on a short holiday by myself next year tog et a feel for the place as well.)
Thank you,
Natalie
Hi Briona!
I'm considering taking a TEFL course and have been doing tons of research online. You're posts have been very helpful! I'm currently living in Canada and I just found out that I'm eligible for EU citizenship as my Dad was born in Scotland! Very exciting! I'm still a bit hesitant because I do not have a university degree and from what I can tell a lot of places require one. Anyway you seem like the right gal to ask so any advice you can give me would be of great help! I have done lots of reading but have yet to talk to someone who's been teaching, and it would be especially nice to talk to a woman, as I imagine traveling alone as a woman is quite an experience in itself!
Thanks :)
Caitlin

Thanks for all the help. All the blogs entries and comments on questions by new TEFL'ers like me have been super helpful :)
