My name is Matthew, and i'm now 24. I have a degree in English and no way to use it, and am beginning to accept that i have wanderlust. That's about as simple as it is. I've tried for 3 years to get onto a PGCE but to no avail so i'm currently doing the 120 hour course in a bid to go somewhere and to do something with my life. I work in a boarding school as pastoral staff and love working with the students, many of them international. I'm taking the classroom part of the course at the beginning of June and then hopefully will be able to start looking for positions in South Korea. I've already taught a couple of informal lessons out there and want to go back. At the moment though, i'm struggling to get my head round all the sites, agencies and opportunities to actually head back out...

I'm also looking at South Korea as one of my options to get a job, also looking at Taiwan and Hong Kong. How far along are you on the course?
Hi again,
Honestly I chose South Korea because it seemed to have the best income to expenses ratio. If money were less important, I would have preferred a Spanish speaking country because I can read a menu, a newspaper, and have a conversation with my students/the locals. I only started researching life in South Korea/culture once I realized how many jobs were available. I'm in the Jeollabuk-do province and except for a handful of western establishments, I'm way out of my element, but now that I'm settled I don't regret coming here. I've written about some of the initial challenges in a few posts, but when I have a little more time, I'm going to write some more. For now, I'm finding my way around the ridiculous curriculum, around my city by bike, I'm taking a lot of photos, I'm going to the gym, and the sauna. Though i wish I had a better curriculum and guidance from more experienced peers, this isn't the worst place to figure it out on my own.
Hi Matthew,
Feel free to throw any questions you might have my way! Having just now finished my fourth week in Korea,I'm extremely new at this game myself, but i'm happy to help
