In March 2009, I went on a two day trip to Kyoto. I left Tokyo at 10.30pm and travelled on the nightbus to Kyoto, arriving at 6am!!! First things first, I went and got a cuppa tea! I am very English haha!
I then travelled to the Inari temple (hundreds of red pillars up a hill, also on the film 'Memoies of a Geisha'), which was my faveorite place in Japan. I arrived there at 7am and it was silent and almost earthly. I fell in love at first site! <3
I went from temple to temple all day, I won't wrote them down as there were so many but the more famous ones were Kiyomizu-dera, Kinkaku-ji and Nijō Castle .
At night I booked in my hostel which was in in the Geisha area of Kyoto. I walked around trying to find a real Geisha for about an hour and was about to give up, when my Japanese friend saw a Geisha, a maiko and their Mother talking to customers. As soon as the Geisha and Maiko left to go to work my friend asked them for a picture. Yay! Success!
The next day was more eating and temples (and sore feet!!). About mid afternoon I went and had a photoshoot as a Maiko in full costume and makeup!! The kimino was soo heavy and don't get me started on the shoes! It was a great experience and I got some great photos! I felt during my trip to Kyoto that I travelled back in time to old Japan and was able to see a new side to Japan.
About 7pm we got the bus back to Modern Tokyo and somewhere to rest my poor feet!
