I had a conversation with my mom while I was open a site that provides information about jobs in China as a teacher. Then my mom said whether I am sure about teaching is really my goal. Well, actually, if she noticed since I was a kid, yes I wanted to be a teacher. As to be a proper teacher here won't give me good salary, then I didn't go to teacher's college.
Then, she said how much she already paid from my university which is one of the best international school here and it cost a lot (I admit it). And yeah, being a teacher here in Indonesia won't be a ble to pay back all my university cost ( I know she won'r ask for it anyway). But going to somewhere out there (out of my country) and be a near-native teacher would be a good opportunity for me.
As some of my friend went outside this country to spend their parents' money, I'm working and earning some more money to give to my parents back home. It should be a plus point for her.
And she asked me if it's possible a PR graduated become a teacher. Well, I believe I can. Why? Because it's my passion. I won't face the deadline of lots of works to face like other PRs do. And I can travel around the world giving something precious to students to help them have a better future. What's so wrong about that?
Honestly, to find a PR job here a lil bit difficult for me, because I don't like to wear fancy clothes to work and don't do night life to socialize. I am a home person. I know I have enough brain and knowledge to work on that kind of situation, but again, I don't feel that it will be a perfect carrier for me.
In PR world, we have to think how to grab most benefits but spend least efforts. For me it's a lil bit manipulative somehow. Because we are looking for our own benefits and compete in such a devil way. Well, it's kinda the same in every business (teaching is an education business). But how we work and what is the goal is more than just money. We will be proud to see one of our students be a successful person because we ever teach them and woul it a nice thing if they still remember us.
Teacher is a best profession in the world, if we do it in a proper way. Most of teachers here in Indonesia aren't good teachers. They pushed their students to do things that the students don't understand. And they yelled at the students because we didn't do our jobs. For me, as a teacher, rather doing those stuffs, it's better for us to find a way to make the students understand and make them like us so that it will be easier to make them do what we ask them to do. Trust me, they will do it in a fun way.
In PR, I learned about the communication skills to adults. But u know what, dealing with young children is a lot more fun. As long as we are true and right, they will follow us. But in a real PR world, u tried to manipulate adult's mind to buy your stuffs or to support your opinion. It is interesting also but you don't get a big effect, such as you can change someone's future by teaching them something.
So I'll say, everybody can be a teacher. But those who have a 'teacher's' heart is the best one. Let's find that heart, and SURE you'll affect someone's future life.
Happy teaching!
