Have I Lost My Mind?

The answer maybe yes.

I am going to China this July. What makes me think that I have lost my mind about it?

I am going there with nothing, only hope that there will be a school or a course would let me work there so I can apply for working visa.

So far, no company wants to make deal before I am there. I have some offers but they need to see me first. And being without my fiance here makes my English even worse (I think so, because some of my students are in holiday so they stop speaking in English). I am trying my best to keep speaking in English, but I have nobody to practice my listening. Some of my students speak quite fluent but their structures and pronunciation are local. It is easy to understand and has no challenge in it as they speak the way I speak.

When I was on the phone with my fiance, he spoke slowly. He afraid that I wouldn't understand if he spoke fast. What a mess!

I am pretty scary now that I go to China with nothing, only my passport and my visa. Even, I am not sure if I have enough money (this is the worst part).

Even I am a fast learner and adaptable person, still I need time to get back my English accent and my English ability. Sometimes, I already forgot some words in Indonesian (my local language) and keep speaking in English, but trust me I am 99% sure that the structure wasn't right.

I hope my excitement feeling to go somewhere new and be someone new makes me learn even faster. Well, live in a country that no one understand your first language and second language isn't that bad. I hope I give my best shot there and make my crazy experience as an inspiration for any Near-Native teacher.

Hey hun! I can help you with speaking and listening if you'd like.  LiveMocha.com will help you also.  It's free to join also.  If you join, find me on there. I'm Slavic.Muse and I'lm an American and I help lots of people with speaking, listening, and writing on there.  :)

And Rin is right. You'll be just fine.  I picked up and moved to Serbia because my boyfriend is from Serbia.  I had a little money, but not much, no job planned out, a suitcase of clothes, and a mouth full of prayers.  Though I did not land a job here just yet, I am going to be working in Ukraine in the fall which will give me the needed experience I need for the jobs here in Serbia...so everything always falls into place.  And we're all here to help each other with these transitions.  TEFL teachers have to stick together.. we are a breed of our own. :)

Hi Astrid :)

I am sure everything will fall into place when you get to China. As Robert is already there, i'm sure he'll have made some contacts. :)
