Looking to teach in China!

So, my wife and I have just passed our 140 hour TEFL and we are looking to head to China to teach. If anyone can recommend a good place to work it would be much appreciated!

Hi!

I just got back to the UK after teaching for a year in a small-ish city in central China (Zhengzhou). The school I was at is still hiring teachers to start this September (although deadline is soon so that Z-visa can be processed in time!) so if you like I could put you in touch with them. I can't recommend them enough, I had a brilliant time and was so upset to have to leave (family stuff back at home). It's not a big city so foreigners are treated well, but the school itself hires between 20-30 foreign teachers each year so it's quite a nice community to help settle in etc. If you'd like me to help out, I've made a friend request and you can get in contact with me.

If you just want more information on what it's like teaching in China, I kept a blog while I was there which you can have a browse - it's www.waiguoren.weebly.com - and you're welcome to ask me any questions.

Good luck! Anna x

Funny how people are never pointed to me on this site even though I am one of the more active members here. I guess it's probably because I'm quite vocal against I to I sometimes..

Anyways, on topic. I think you would be best to find an agent (google is your best friend as different people like different term/contracts), and ask to be placed in a small city. I say a small city because in my experience they are the places where teachers are treated the best, simply because of the lack of foreigners.

Of course it is entirely up to you, and if you don't like the idea of jumping in quite that deep, maybe you should look to be placed in a larger city where there are more English speakers and everything is generally more developed.

Hey,

That's great you and your wife are looking to teach English in China. You may want to have a chat with these members who are currently teaching there, they'll be able to give you advice on where the best places to teach are:
