Hi guys, Im a British/Tunisian girl, living in UK and studying for a BA (Hons) English degree, im currently in the 2nd year and hopefully summer 2011 i should be getting my degree. I have passed 60 hours of the online i to i tefl course and im currently in the process of studying for the 100 hours. I would like to know people who are interested in teaching/have experience of teaching in North Africa/Middle East as i plan to teach in both in the near future hopefully! :) I speak: English,French,Arabic and some Spanish but its pretty rusty as havent spoke it for a few years! But i love languages and i spent my gap year in Tunisia learning to read/write Arabic, it was a good experience and convinced me i want to live there long term, the only prob is low salary which is why im looking to teach in middle east first to save some money. peace everyone. oh by the way, my name is Latifa..i dont think i mentioned that. lol

How are you doing? I am well these days, thank you.
I hope the page is useful to you in finding all you or looking for, or at least providing you with some information to get you to where you would like to be^-^
I am interested in teaching in China and in Africa, although there are so many choices and the world is so exciting, teaching pretty much anywhere would be good^-^ I hear the Middle East is an exciting place to teach.
Have you completed the TEFL course yet? I finished up with mine about a year ago, though I am still studying, so once it all gets completeled, I'll be ready to go!
Have a great day and do keep in touch=^-^=
PS-Thank you for posting the lovely pictures up on the Africa group page, they are very lovely^-^
Hi Arabgirl,
How are you doing? I hope you're doing well these days.
I noticed (from the Africa group page) you are interested in going to the Middle East to teach ESL/TEFL. There is a page here for the UAE, I hope that it will be of assistance to you in helping you on your way.

Hi arabgirl,
I think I will have a lot of info that we will share very soon. The reason i say that is because i have finally managed to land me a job in Riyadh, Saudi. I am expected to start teaching in KSU(king Saud uni by 25 October.
It is still sinking in even though i have already signed the final contract. the contract is for 1 year; i will work 11 months and get paid 30 days holidays which completes the year. there may be a chance for renewal for a further year as well.
There are a couple things you may be interested in knowing: this company called 'Education Experts' has just recruited 24 females to join the other male teachers to begin teaching in KSU this late October. therefore, the demand for female English teachers does look promising.
the other thing they mentioned in the letter is that all females must be wearing an abaya and only in black, preferably head covering(hijab). Face covering (niqab) for non-Saudi women is not strongly enforced in Riyadh though it is in more conservative areas. Women must purchase an abaya and hijad before coming.
Rest assured then that finding teaching jobs for you should not be an issue in Saudi.
For your info, most if not all teaching jobs flights are paid for to come and return. accommodation, transport, medical service is all paid for and of course your salary is tax free. this is what contract entails.
I will keep you updated on anything that might interest you.
take care
Fred
thanks :-)
Hi there,
Just clocked this new user who's looking for teachers in Saudi: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-chalkboard/ojamedai
Know you're looking for opportunities in that part of the world so might be worth checking out - but as always tread with caution when sussing out schools!
