Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountCalcutta! WOW, I hear jobs teaching in India are very scarce even though they all want to speak English. You would certainly be making a great investment in yourself if you take the TEFL and teach abroad, It can open so many doors, You could make it a career, use it to travel and get paid by doing short contracts and it looks great to potential employers that you have worked abroad! I have totally enjoyed myself for the past 10 months and it is so unreal that it's almost a year since I started! I was going to use it as a working holiday/gap year and go back to work in the UK but now I'm making it my career and want to take the CELTA next year. Where you work really depends on the type of person you are, if you like hot and sunny then Italy, Spain, South America, Thailand or here in Indonesia will suit you, if you like cool but still warm try southern China. If your a cold freak then northern China can get pretty cold. Also it would depend if you have a university degree or not as some countries like Korea, Japan and Thailand stipulate you must have a degree. Please do ask me any of your questions and I will get back to you with the best advice I can.
Hi Robert, thanks for getting back to me so quickly. I am just back from Calcutta where I got the opportunity to teach English for a few weeks and little did I know that it would start me thinking ‘hey I could do this abroad for a longer time’! I am very keen to do some research over the next couple of months to see if this is an option for me. I really wanted to ask you for advice on first of all how you like it over there and would you recommend it as a place to spend the best part of a year. I have a lot of questions but just thought I would ask you that for a start! Let me know what you think, many thanks Robert.
Hi Anto, I would be happy to answer any questions you might have, rather than email maybe you could post them in: http://www.tefl-chalkboard.com/groups/7-Indonesia-/discussion/19-what-do-you-want-to-know?page=1#posts-169 that's a board I started for anyone who has questions. I recommend you post them there so others can see who might have similar questions. Thanks, Robert
