Slow and Steady

So, having spent two glorious weeks in the lovely sunshine of Germany, brushing up on my German language skills and eating enough German sausage to last a life time, I am home in (not so sunny) Ireland, and gettin stuck back into my TEFL course.

I have 67 days to go, and not I'm not doing too bad considering I had two weeks of doing nothing. I have 6 modules done, and two of my 5 assessments completed. I must say I am finding it more time consuming than difficult. I find just reading through everything and taking the time to think things through more difficult than actually understanding the material. Most of it is general ideas rather than fact that you have to learn. Although I must say, I found the first module on grammer rather difficult, as being a native speaker of English I never had to actually think about how English works before. So I found understanding and remembering the different tenses slightly head wrecking. But I got through it with a bit of perseverence and a good bit of herbal tea.

So, with nothing but a few shifts in the aul job between me and finishing the course in September, I am looking forward to getting stuck in again. To anyone starting the course, or finding it a little tedious and wondering why you bothered, I say take 15 minutes to google the place you want to go when your course is done, or read some of the blogs of people who are living and working abroad as TEFl teachers. Its amazing how your feeling of excitement will return, and with it the motivation to put in that extra hour of work a day. As they say, slow and steady wins the race.

Hello,, Amy, my name is Ingrid and you are only the 2nd person I talk with on this site. Actually, I have been sitting here for an hour trying to figure out 3 things...1-how do I "invite a friend" ? 2- What's the difference between doing this and just being able to see every member on the page-can anybody read this and talk to me?  3- I just paid about $600 for the 160-hr courses with i-to-i and they say at the site that they never received my registration or payment. What is the exact website of the i-t0-i course? I also read some of your words and it sounds like you are haing an interesting life; English being your mother tongue like myself-I being American; would you say TEFL has any advantage over ESL? If you want to teach in the States, you really need another course called CETYL' however it costs $2500. So I opted for this one. I hope I can teach in the states with the i-to-i; have you ever considered the same? Inga

I am hoping to go to Japan this time next year after I finish my college degree in English and History. Really looking forward to it. The course just makes it all the more real and possible, and all the more exciting :-) Thanks for the comment, will keep everyone posted.

Good luck with the rest of your course Amy.

Where are you hoping to teach?

Keep us posted on how you get on :-)
