A new direction

Thinking I had a great plan and cheered on by friends and family I invested in myself for once.

I finally did my TEFL and planned to get experience before I left for a foreign country and then to take it slow doing some work in places like Spain where I know people and I can ease myself into cultural changes, before heading for the big one and my main aim of Japan.

Now my dreams are dashed it seems, you need to have a different type of TEFL to teach in English speaking countries you then need a degree to teach in Spain and Japan. I of course have neither of these requirements. I have been looking into all of these options for quite sometime and now I am lost as to what I should do. I've no savings left and I am still out of work so won't have any. I was tempted to go and volunteer somewhere only I can't afford to eat or board anywhere.

I do hope to see a light at the end of the tunnel and find a way around some, any or all of these obstacles if I figure it out I will let you all know how and hopefully it will help someone else but for now I continue my search!!

Wish me luck (even though I'm Irish) I have a feeling I'm seriously going to need it!

You can try Hong Kong too, well some need a degree but there are those that don't need it and particularly kindergarten level. Since you have a TEFL under your belt countries around Asia probably are more easier target without a degree (except Japan which are more strict).

Apparently (South) Korea pays like a little more for people with 100+ hours i-to-i TEFL too (that's why I'm also doing 120hours course plus I need it lol), but Korea is not a bad choice like you I love Japan too and I think Korea will be most similar choice until you do find a way into Japan. How to get into the countries, etc. well... I'm not an expert with those things, luckily for myself I can live in UK and Hong Kong freely. :P

Hope you do find a place spot soon, there's plenty about but just the searching part that's the pain. I wish you luck!

Good luck and don't give up!

Even though you need a degree to teach in Spain and Japan there are loads of amazing places you can teach without a degree.

If Europe's your thing you might want to look into the Czech Republic: http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-jobs-abroad/tefl-czech-republic.html, while if you're longing for something a bit more Asian, give China or Indoneisa a go: http://www.onlinetefl.com/teaching-internships/china/ and http://www.onlinetefl.com/tefl-jobs-abroad/tefl-indonesia.html.

Best of luck and if you have any questions just give me a shout!
