Hey Alysew,

Just finished a 120 hour TEFL and just started a job in Thailand. 120 Hours is long but it is worth it for you to teach somewhere you really want to. This place is amazing, suffering a little shock at the moment but it is definitely a good place to be!

Also always check what it says on the tin, the area where I teach is very small (well not really) but everyone knows your business, so no getting drunk smoking etc as you may lose some respect as a teacher. Not that I see that but its what people say. Check what you should wear for school as I bought some trousers and discovered I cannot wear them and only wear skirts. I am not a big girl, but I am defo bigger than a lot of Thai women so getting clothes was super hard!!!

PS. I found my job on Daves ESL cafe

Hope that helps xx

Awesome. I'm teaching in China right now, but I want to teach in all the places the poster below me mentioned! Cambodia appeals to me and Myanmar. Top place for me though has always been Japan!

I recommend if you are going to teach in China, ask which floor your apartment is on. Anything under 8 floors more than a few years old won't have a lift! Also don't pick a small city. You may want to experience China, but a year in a small city with no simple amenities could send you mad!

Hey, I have taught in Thailand, Vietnam Japan and Indonesia so if you have any questions feel free to message me.Where to teach depends on how long you are prepared to commit really.Alot of Schools are not keen on teachers who only want to be there to fund their holidays or stay for a couple of months, as it provides no continuity for the students.Thailand is a great place to teach if you are looking to break into TEFL but be sure to have all the relevent info before taking any old job.Its not as cheap as it was so unless you are prepared for a total Thai immersion and can speak some of the language look at jobs with at least 35,000B for Bangkok. If you are qualified and experianced there are plenty jobs at 40,000B or more, though if you want the best money you will need an education degree, tefl and experiance to teach in the international schools.

Japan is fantastic for culture, people and TEFL but remember cost of living is high so the £25k a year salary might look tempting but in retrospect you arent going to save much.If money is what you are looking for head to Korea or Taiwan but for a real experiance and culture Thailand, Cambodia, Vietnam and Indonesia are amazing.
