There was a demonstration in Loja but we now have traffic police and the president has been rescued by the army. There are no classed today, or yesterday and we dont get paid! I think they`re back on from Saturday morning though. I worry more about Kallen, he`s in a pretty sketchy city where banks have been looted due to lack of police. I think it should pass over soon now that Correa is back in the drivers seat but its a bit worrying that it seems to have been influenced by the last president, so maybe its more than just a police pay problem:

I heard about that briefly but then it didn't make further news here (Canada). Is this going to affect your stay at all? Are you feeling it at all where you are?
