Hi,
I'm now living in Madrid, it's a great city, seriously hot and really fun. I've found a job - there's lots of TEFL work here. I was in Ecuador before so it's like learning Spanish all over again! Still loving the way of life though. I like travelling, photography, cycling and gardening, don't get much chance for the last two though. Be glad to hear from any other teachers here.

Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHi Alix, I read your post about the papers in Spain, the NIE and the social security .. and I'm almost done with my course, I want to teach in Spain so I was wondering if I should start doing those things now or should I wait untill I actually get a job over there...
Thank you for your time! =D

Hi Alix, I hope you are well and thank you for accepting my friend request. I have travelled to Madrid in the past and find it to be a fine city. I am looking at Madrid as a potential CELTA course destination. Can I ask if you know anything of good or bad of the following schools
The British Language Centre, (Plaza Castilas)
Chester School of English
Hyland Language Centre
International House
The internet is awash with so many schools, and a heads up would be helpful. Of course you may be able to recommend an alternative. Secondly, from your perspective how are things in respect of employment in Spain? The European situation is not great and Spain seems to be suffering greater than most, namely with the higher unemployment figures. One of your posts suggests plenty of work in Madrid. Of course if others should read this, input is greatly appreciated!
I hope I am not asking to much of you and I thank you in advance.
Kindest regards
Mark
Hi, I just spent a couple of days in Madrid before and after going to La Alberca with Pueblo Ingles and thought it was an amazing place. Apart from Vaughan and Pueblo Ingles are there any other good language schools/websites you may be able to recommend for finding work in Madrid. Im hoping to finish my TEFL soon (waiting for the results of checkpoint 4) and them I'm ready to go. I speak Spanish and already have my NIE and a social security number.
Kind Regards
Nikki
Hi. Do you need a degree to even consider working somewhere like Madrid? Sounds awesome & the hotter the better too!
Thank you! It's a lovely picture!
Hope you are well (-:
Take care,
Hannah
Hi to anyone looking at my profile for information on Ecuador!
I'm usually happy to talk about Ecuador, but please just ask your questions here on my profile, instead of sending me private messages. Then other people can read the answers.... as it is I just keep answering the same questions constantly! Some of them are questions that are difficult to answer - maybe soon I'll write one last post FAQs!
As it is I've written lots of posts about it already - see my blog....
Basically, the best advice I can give is - suck it and see! In Brit English that means try it for yourself - just because I like strawberry flavour that doesn't mean you will too! I can tell you all the things I love about Ecuador and then other people will tell you exactly why they hate it.
You will get a job if you try. You will either get a visa or manage without one. There is no reason not to go unless you want a life of stable security - you will not get that, not compared to Europe or America anyway.
Hi Alix!
Thanks so much for sending those pictures in. They're amazing! I've added them to the article. You can take a look here:

Hi there, i really enjoyed reading your profile and seeing that you enjoy teaching in Madrid! My friend and I have finished a 120 'TEFL England' course and are now looking to teach English in Spain. I see that you have mentioned that finding a job in Spain teaching English shouldn't be too difficult. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for us? At the moment jobs on tefl.com seem few and far between.
Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated!
Adam
Awesome answer man. Thankyou!
Hey Alix! Thanks for the information. Ecuador does seem to be very popular for TEFLers without a degree, so I'll get looking into it. Haha I guess I am still kinda young, but time seems to be moving by very quickly, a lot quicker than it used to anyway.
I've just had a look through your profile, and it really does seem like you're living the life! I must say that I am slightly envious :).. how long were you in Ecuador for? Do you have any travel tips for that part of the world?
