Hi,
I'm now living in Madrid, it's a great city, seriously hot and really fun. I've found a job - there's lots of TEFL work here. I was in Ecuador before so it's like learning Spanish all over again! Still loving the way of life though. I like travelling, photography, cycling and gardening, don't get much chance for the last two though. Be glad to hear from any other teachers here.

Log in to leave a comment or Create an accountHi there, i really enjoyed reading your profile and seeing that you enjoy teaching in Madrid! My friend and I have finished a 120 'TEFL England' course and are now looking to teach English in Spain. I see that you have mentioned that finding a job in Spain teaching English shouldn't be too difficult. I was wondering if you had any recommendations for us? At the moment jobs on tefl.com seem few and far between.
Any help would be EXTREMELY appreciated!
Adam
Awesome answer man. Thankyou!
Hey Alix! Thanks for the information. Ecuador does seem to be very popular for TEFLers without a degree, so I'll get looking into it. Haha I guess I am still kinda young, but time seems to be moving by very quickly, a lot quicker than it used to anyway.
I've just had a look through your profile, and it really does seem like you're living the life! I must say that I am slightly envious :).. how long were you in Ecuador for? Do you have any travel tips for that part of the world?
Hi alix, great new blog! Lots of useful info on Equador in there! I really dont know what to do at the moment regarding my tefl course. I was really sure that i was going to do the 120 hour course with i-to-i and then continue to do the china internship next year but over the last two days ive been on to a few teaching forums and theres loads of bad reviews about i-to-i. A lot of them say that an i-to-i tefl certificate isnt taken seriously in a lot of countries. Some go as far as saying that the countries you can get into with an i-to-i certificate would prbably take you in with no qualification anyway? Others say they had a lot of trouble after they had paid for the course, saying that once they'd paid and if they were having trouble with their course/internship i-to-i wernt very supportive. A lot of people wernt happy with the internship either, again saying that once they'd paid, i-to-i wernt very supportive and things wernt organised very well. I could go on and on but all of these bad reviews (and there were lots of them!) have put me off wanting to do a tefl course with i-to-i. I think im going to shop about and look at other companies as i-to-i was the first company i came across and i havnt really looked at others in such depth. Any advice on this matter would be appreciated :)
hey alix, thanks for your reply! im now in the dilemma of either going to equador or to do the china internship??! one thing im a bit worried about is my education history. i think i read somewhere that you didnt have proof of schooling, is this right? i only stayed in school until i was 16 and didnt do very well in my gcse's. and i have no real proof of that even due to moving house about 18 million times!
have you struggled finding jobs etc regarding this matter??
hey alix, thanks for your reply :) yeah im just a bit undecided whether to do an online course or a class course, and also which tefl/tesol/etc...theres so many different ones i dont know which one is best for someone without a degree??
one more question, would you recommend learning a bit of spanish??
well keep me posted if you get to make that 'proper' blog, ill surer have a read of it :) thanks again alix :)
hi there alix! ive just been reading a thread in one of the groups and someone mentions you saying that you've just been teaching in equador. i am going to be doing my tefl course soon and was looking at starting in equador as i dont have a degree. if you have any information or advice for me i would be truly grateful :) also, how did you like it there??
Guy :)
Well done on the course you got accepted into. Is that a teaching course? Thanks for your reply and giving me loads of information. However I do have another question for you, I was wondering can you do an Internship and teach in Spain?? Id like to go over there in Jaurary 2012 and an internship would be prefect for me. Is that possible?
Hi AlixM09.
IM thinking of doing the TEFL course and would love to teach in Madrid some day. Im just wondering whats it like living there?? Is it expensive and is it easy enough to get a job there??
Hi AlixM09, myself and my boyfriend have just enrolled in the 140hour TEFL course and are also looking to teach in Ecuador. I've been reading your posts and it looks like you had a great time! Did you get much opportunity to travel around South America while you were out there? Do you think it would be easy for the 2 of us to get a job in the same school?
