5 Weeks to Go!

OK, I've never written a blog before but what the hell, it's a sunday afternoon and I haven't got anything else to do...

Having received the pre-departure handbook and sample contract yesterday, it has finally struck both Daniel and I for real that we're going away!

Although this won't be the first time we've done something like this. Last year we set off for Hong Kong for 4 weeks with a view to finding a job independently. Although that didn't work out, I think we're much more prepared than we were last time, and ready to take on the challenge.

Of course, I've been contemplating what I'll be wearing on the journey. As we'll be flying with Emirates, I want at least to give off the impression that I belong in terminal 3 when we transfer in Dubai- everyone is incredibly fancy there, and the last two times I've passed through the airport, I looked like I'd walked the entire distance! So, shirt and trousers for the airports, and T-shirt and slacks for the airplane. And, I cannot wait to fly on the A380- call me a geek, but I think it's an amazing plane!!

Last night we had a look at the IES Global website and there were quite a few pictures on there of previous interns during the orientation week. Daniel's reaction was, "They look like a bunch of 90s students". I, on the other hand, thought it looked quite fun!

I was also glad to read that we'll receive 2 hours of Mandarin lessons each week, as I've been teaching myself with "Chinese in Steps" and I have to say that I'm not doing too badly. My only problem is using tones- I sound like I'm speaking backwards!

If anyone is jetting off from Birmingham on 22nd August with Emirates, would be nice to hear from you!

再见!

Hey, the booklet and sample contract made it that much more real too! All that is left for me is the Visa letter and getting that all sorted out :) I am flying in a week earlier so that I can travel on my own for a bit in Beijing. My biggest advice for the plane ride and clothes is that I bring a change and close to landing I switch into mine in the ity bity bathroom lol. But sometimes I just jet to the nearest bathroom in some airports where I know that the luggage will take awhile to change there. A lot of people make the mistake of not packing clothes in their carry on - worst mistake - cause what happens if you loose the luggage? You are out of clothes - and on long travels it is great to change - especially for me coming off of a 14hr non-stop flight. I have to admit I have your passion for that Airbus! I want to be a flight attendant and if I could that is my dream plane to fly with. Most people see me as a geek cause of that but - awe well! Have fun in the last few weeks left! - soak up the little things you know you will miss most (for me it is sitting on grass, maple syrup, and steak) and see ya in August!
