5 Things I Love About Living in Seville

In a moment of national crisis, sometimes I do wonder why I live in Seville. As a TEFL teacher with a golden ticket to teach and travel the world, I decided to stop here, but why? You’ve already seen the reasons why I hate living in Spain, but there are reasons why I love it.

Lifestyle

I love the Spanish lifestyle. I’m lucky enough to work for an academy where I have a three day weekend (sometimes two and a half because of useful training sessions on Friday mornings). Working until 10pm can be a pain sometimes (I hate missing mid-week Premiership and Champions League football), but at least I get the mornings off to write or go to the gym.

What is it Like to Teach Real English Learners in the UK?

There’s a new course in town and it’s making waves in the industry! It’s called the EDI CertTEFL and it’s the highest level of accreditation available for a TEFL certificate – and it’s equivalent to a CELTA!

There are plenty of exciting elements of the course that’ll blow other courses out of the water (not to mention the fact that the course takes place on six consecutive Saturdays, so there’s no need to quit your job to attend) but I wanted to run you through the most exciting part of the EDI CertTEFL course. For me, it is what makes this course stand out.

You get the opportunity to teach real adult English learners over the course of six consecutive Saturdays.

I attended two of the six sessions, observing the tutees teaching real adult English learners so I’m here to report back on how it all went and why it’s so exciting…

I went to Uganda and all I Got was This Lousy Typhoid!

Check out our Katie’s guest post on Gap Daemon’s blog, it’s all about her contracting Typhoid during her time in Uganda as a TEFL teacher. It does contain some fairly graphic tales, perhaps not one to read as you’re eating dinner… that’s if you’re one of those crazy cats who eats and types and reads and clicks all at the same time.

Read ‘I Went to Uganda and All I Got was This Lousy Typhoid!’ and always check a banana for flies before you eat it (read the post to find out more…)

Cheers!

Why is Thailand Perfect for First Time TEFL Travelers?

If you want to teach English as a foreign country in a safe, entertaining, and exotic country, meet TEFL teachers from all over the world, and live like a king, then Thailand is an excellent choice.

Thailand was probably my most memorable TEFL experience; for good and bad reasons. I taught in Bangkok for seven months. I can’t say I loved every minute, but I learnt loads and my time there changed my life.

Spot the problem here…

5 Things I Hate About Living in Spain

The fact that I’ve been living in Spain, and I’m going to continue, makes this a hard blog to write. I normally try to block the negatives away. Hopefully but the end of writing this I don’t have itchy feet again.

Beneath the blue skies and colourful buildings lurk less appealing things!

What is Classroom Life in Spain REALLY Like?

So you want to teach cute little Spanish kids, eager Spanish teenagers, and laid back Spanish adults? I’m not saying that isn’t possible, but be warned, life in the classroom as a TEFL teacher in Spain is not a massive fiesta.

Having lived in Seville, the capital of Andalucía, for almost seven years, I’ve had the privilege of teaching a wide range of students. Some have been fun, eager, and appreciative, while others have been smarmy, rude, and patronizing.

Seville, where the sun shines for over 300 days a year!
