How Does the Vietnam Train and Teach Internship Work?

It's pretty simple really. First you do the training part, which includes the i-to-i 60 Hour Online TEFL Course (to give you some extra confidence before you arrive) and then four weeks of TEFL training which takes place in Vietnam. Once you've successfully completed that four week course, you'll be ready to move onto the really, really exciting 4.5 month internship part that TTV have organised on your behalf.

The Training Part

Your training starts with access to the i-to-i 60 Hour Online TEFL Course. This course will give you a great introduction to TEFL before you head out to Vietnam. Then, once you step off the plane in Vietnam you'll have some time to chill out and settle in before starting the four week TEFL course.

60 Hours of Study Before You Travel

Our 60 Hour Online TEFL course will introduce you to all the key TEFL theory and get you ready for your time in South East Asia. This course will give you a great introduction to TEFL before you head out to Vietnam. By passing this short online course you’ll end up with two respected TEFL certificates which are valid for a lifetime.

Four Weeks TEFL Training in Vietnam

The four week TEFL course is run by ELC Sydney - three-time winner of Language Travel Magazine's 'Best Language School Southern Hemisphere Award'. You'll cover everything from lesson preparation and classroom management through to how to teach new vocabulary and correct your students' errors.

Teaching Practice

You'll get to put all your studies into practice by teaching local Vietnamese students for five days. This will help build your confidence and improve your classroom skills before you start teaching in your new school.

Respected TEFL Certificate

Your TEFL training is completed by the 4.5 months teaching in Vietnam. So once you've finished your internship you'll receive a respected ELC TEFL Certificate that will enable you to teach English worldwide.

Accommodation and Meals During Your TEFL Training Course

You'll have a comfortable place to stay during your TEFL training in Vietnam and TTV will provide all your meals too, which leaves you free to really enjoy your time in your arrival city.

Cultural Orientation

To help you settle into Vietnamese life you'll get a full cultural orientation. There will be a few social events and meals as well as tours of your arrival city and the surrounding area.

Help With the Local Language

To help you get by in your new surroundings, conversational Vietnamese lessons and a Vietnamese phrasebook are included too.

The Internship Part

Once you've successfully completed the four week course, you'll head off for the really exciting bit: living and working as an English teacher in Vietnam. TTV will find you a teaching position at a local school, arrange your accommodation and generally make things as simple and stress free as possible. And because you'll always be placed with another TTV intern, you'll have someone to share all those exciting new Vietnamese experiences with.

The Internship at a Glance

Schools across the country

You could be living in Ho Chi Minh City, the Mekong Delta, the coastal towns of Vung Tao and Phan Tiet or further north in Hue, Vinh or Hanoi.

Travel

Once you've found out where you’ll be teaching, you'll get transport out to your new home. And when you've completed your contract your return transfer to your arrival city is also included!

Free Accommodation

To make things as easy as possible, TTV will arrange a place for you to stay in Vietnam. You'll usually share an apartment close to your school with another intern. Although the apartments may seem basic by Western standards, you can rest assured that they have been inspected by the TTV team.

Support and Advice from TTV

The guys from TTV know Vietnam like the back of their hands and they've been organising these internships for years. So it's nice to know that they'll be there to help out whenever you need a little help and advice. Whether that's because the showers stopped working or you need to know a good place to get a cheap flight to Kuala Lumpur for the weekend, they'll do all they can to help.

What you need

  • To have excellent spoken English, however English doesn't need to be your first language
  • To have a full university degree
  • To be 21 or older at your time of arrival
  • To hold a passport from one of the following countries: UK, USA, Australia, Ireland, New Zealand, Canada, South Africa or the EU
  • To hold a full, clean police check from your home country
  • To be resilient, open-minded and accepting of other cultures
  • To be able to arrive on August 3rd 2013 and stay till January 17th 2014

Important Visa Information

You will enter Vietnam on a 3 month business visa which is obtained on arrival. TTV will send you a letter of invitation from the department of immigration which you print off and bring with you.

You'll present this letter upon arrival and pay between US$45-$50 in cash for your landing visa.

After 3 months, your visa will be extended in-country through sponsorship by your TTV program in association with the Ministry of Education and each participating school. The visa extension cost is US $175. This is payable in cash on arrival in Vietnam during orientation week.

You’ll also need to budget US$150 - $200 to have your documents notarised in your home country before arriving into Vietnam.

What you don't need

  • You don't need to be a native English speaker, however you will need to be totally fluent in English
  • You don't need to speak Vietnamese. As an English language teacher, the best thing you can do is create a totally English-speaking atmosphere for your students
  • You don't need any previous teaching experience - this program welcomes total TEFL beginners
  • You don't need to complete the full 60 Hour Online TEFL Course: it's just there to help you along the way
