Join the Train and Teach China Internship in August 2013!

You’ll spend four weeks taking an in-depth TEFL training course designed to help non-native English speakers get to grips with teaching overseas.

You’ll then have the chance to explore Beijing before taking part in a 4.5 month supported placement at a reputable Chinese school. Our partners, TTC, will be on hand to offer practical help and support for the entire time you’re over in China.

How Does the China Train and Teach Internship Work?

As you’d expect, there are two parts to the TTC Train and Teach Internship, training and teaching. First up is the training part, which includes access to the i-to-i 60 Hour Online TEFL Course followed by a four week TEFL course over in Beijing. Once you’ve passed your four week course, you’ll be ready to move onto the really, really fun internship part which TTC have organised on your behalf.

Training at a Glance

60 Hours of Study Before You Travel

This flexible online course will give you a thorough introduction to the basics of teaching English as a foreign language. And while you don’t need to complete this course to take part in the teaching internship, a second TEFL certificate will really impress future employers!

Four Weeks TEFL Training in China

The four week TEFL course is run by ELC Sydney - three-time winner of Language Travel Magazine’s ‘Best Language School Southern Hemisphere Award’. It covers everything from how to prepare lessons and keep your students interested through to teaching conversational English and explaining the ins and outs of English grammar.

Teaching Practice

You’ll get to put all your studies into practice by teaching local Chinese students for five days. This will come in really handy as you’ll gain vital classroom experience before you have to step in front of a room full of expectant Chinese school kids!

Respected TEFL Certificate

Your 4.5 months teaching in China also counts towards your ELC Teaching Certificate. So once you’ve completed the teaching internship you’ll have the certification and experience to teach pretty much anywhere on the planet!

Accommodation and Meals During Your Course

You’ll have a comfortable place to stay during your course and TTC will provide all your meals too, which leaves you free to concentrate on your studies and really enjoy your time in China. You’ll be sharing with other TTC interns so you’ll have a ready-built support network from your first day in China.

Cultural Orientation

To help you settle into Chinese life you’ll get a full cultural orientation. There will be a few social events and meals as well as a tour of Beijing and the surrounding area.

Help With the Local Language

To help you get by in your new surroundings, conversational Mandarin lessons are included too.

The Internship Part

Once you’ve successfully completed the four week course, you’ll head off for the really exciting bit: living and working as an English teacher in China. TTC will find you a teaching position at a local school, arrange your accommodation and generally make things as simple and stress free as possible. And because you’ll always be placed with another TTC intern, you’ll have someone to share all those exciting new experiences with.

The Internship at a Glance

Schools across the country

During your training and orientation in Beijing, you’ll find out where you’ll be spending your 4.5 months as a teacher. That could be pretty much anywhere in the country: from the bright lights of Beijing and Shanghai to the more laid-back charms of smaller coastal towns. But no matter where you end up you’ll be placed with another TTC intern, so you’ll have someone to share your experiences with!

Travel

Once you’ve found out which school you’ll be teaching in, you’ll get transport out to your new home and a little help settling in to your new surroundings.

Accommodation

To make things as easy as possible TTC will arrange a clean and comfortable place for you to stay. You’ll usually share an apartment close to your school with another intern. Although the apartments may seem a little basic by Western standards, you can rest assured that they have been fully checked by the TTC team.

Support and advice

The guys from TTC know China like the back of their hands and they’ve been organising these internships for years. They’ll be there to help out whenever you need them. Whether that’s because you’ve lost the key to the apartment, or you’re not sure how to book a flight over to Hong Kong for the weekend - they’re only a quick call away.
