Work & Visas

How do I find work?
If you want to arrange a job from home, you’re best to go with one of the “Big 3” : Language Link, BKC or English First. These schools recruit abroad and offer pretty good packages for first-timers. Once you’ve settled in after a year or so, you’ll understand the market better and maybe move on to a different school.
Can I find work while in-country?
Yes, although there is some debate as to which is the best way to go: finding a job in-country or from home. By finding a job when you arrive, you can meet your employers face-to-face, but the high costs will quickly eat up your savings.
What is the usual hiring process?
The Big 3 will interview you in your home country after a screening process; you may also be asked to teach a practice lesson.
Is a work visa required to find paid work?
Yes, and your work visa is arranged by your employer. However, the process is complicated and drawn out, which is why the Big 3 schools are so popular with new teachers: they have the required support of the Ministry of Education, and the Mayor’s office and can obtain the visa with little fuss.
