Work & Visas

How do I find work?
If you want to arrange a job before you leave, several schools advertise jobs in the educational sections of big newspapers. Alternatively, Portugal’s Yellow Pages lists hundreds of language schools across the country.
Can I find work while in-country?
If you’ve contacted a few schools from the Yellow Pages from home, they’ll usually ask you to come and visit them once you arrive in Portugal and, if you’re an EU citizen, this will probably be your best option. You can also try looking for adverts in the English-language Portugal News.
What is the usual hiring process?
It’s the usual process of the employer seeing your résumé and inviting you for an interview.
Is a work visa required to find paid work in?
EU citizens simply need to apply for a residence permit once they’ve been in the country for three months. The process for non-EU residents is more difficult, but they must have a job offer before applying for the permit.
Residence permit requirements:
  • Proof of accommodation
  • Proof of health insurance
  • Proof of income (either employment or savings)
  • Proof of social security registration if employed
