- Newly-qualified teachers can expect to earn €700-€1,000 per month, although this can be supplemented with private tuition.
- Taxes
- At €700 per month, expect to pay 13% tax. On a salary of €1,000 per month, it’ll be more like 16%.
- Cost of living
- The cost of living here is slightly cheaper than other western European countries; with a beer costing about €1 and a liter of milk (2 pints) just €0.40.
- Potential to save money
- Realistically, you’re unlikely to save any money.
- How much TEFL training is recommended?
- As the market here is quite mature, a TEFL certificate is the minimum expected from the vast majority of employers. i-to-i offers a range of internationally-recognized qualifications that will allow you to set up a job here.
- Common teaching conditions
- Teachers typically have 25 contact hours each week and the students tend to be friendly and enthusiastic. You’ll often be teaching young kids from the age of 7 upwards, so i-to-i’s Teaching English to Young Learners specialist certificate will be very useful.
