i-to-i offers secured placements in good schools in Tegus, where you can be assured of a rewarding teaching experience.
Internet access is getting broader in Honduras, so several schools – such as Escuela Bilingüe Honduras and Day Star - now have websites with information and contact details.
Can I find work while in-country?
This is possible, but make sure you have enough funds to survive on during your job search; you’ll have to rely on recommendations from other “gringos” (English-speaking foreigners), so it may take a while to find a decent job.
What is the usual hiring process?
Once you’ve made your application, you’ll usually be interviewed over the phone if you’re still in your home country. If you apply in-country, you’ll also have a tour of the school and may get a chance to speak to other teachers
Is a work visa required to find paid work?
Yes. Good schools will arrange your visa for you, but many teachers work on a tourist visa. This presents two problems: firstly, it’s illegal; and secondly, you’ll have to travel to a non-adjoining country (e.g. Costa Rica or Mexico) every 90 days to renew it! However some schools, such as those that i-to-i work with, have special dispensation that allow them to hire foreign teachers on tourist visas
