Google is your friend when it comes to finding a job from home, but with so many Brazilian English teachers, there aren’t many schools that will commit to giving you work.
Can I find work while in-country?
This is the best way to get a teaching job - there are numerous schools in places like São Paulo and Rio that will take you on. Just ask around at your hostel.
What is the usual hiring process?
It’s best to go to the schools themselves and see what’s available. It’s not unheard of to get a few trial classes after only a five minute interview.
Is a work visa required to find paid work?
Officially, your work permit is arranged by your employer. In practice, hardly any teachers do this and most work on a tourist visa - the cost and red tape involved in arranging a work visa is too prohibitive for most schools. In fact, as tourists can only stay in the country for 6 months out of each year, many teachers have expired visas.
Work visa requirements:
Sponsorship from an employer
Lots of experience teaching in a specialized area
A relaxed attitude to red tape.
A lot of time and money!
