TEFL Teaching tips
Tip 1 - 8th August 2007
Failing to plan, is planning for a seriously embarrassing classroom moment! It’s not complicated, you’ll learn planning on the course. Just make sure you have your plan near to hand in the classroom and make it easy to refer to. If your lesson is going well, but is off plan, it’s not the end of the world.
Tip 2 - 16th August 2007
When you first start teaching, include your classroom management plan in you lesson plan. By this I mean, include your instructions for setting up an activity and even who you are going to pair with whom and where they are going to sit. Eventually, this will come naturally and you won’t have to spend so much time on the planning. But believe me, having been caught out in the EFL classroom, when you first start – leave nothing to chance!
Tip 3: - 20th August 2007
Keep all your lesson plans in a folder for future use. Eventually you will have a whole file you can use and adapt for future lessons and really cut down your preparation time.
Tip 4: - 30th August 2007
To improve as a teacher it is necessary to be critical of yourself and respond to feedback, get yourself observed by a more experienced teacher.
Tip 5: - 7th September 2007
You will always have your own teaching style, some of you will be more Whoopi Goldberg, some will be more like Albert Einstein. The style you develop needs to be you, it needs to be honest – this way you’ll gain the trust and respect from your students.
