Do I Have to Take a TEFL Course?
Having a TEFL qualification is by and large an industry standard.
There are no guarantees that having a TEFL certification will get you a job, while conversely, there are no certainties if you don't have one you won't find a job. In the majority of case a TEFL certification will be required to secure a position at a reliable language institute. On top of this your TEFL course will prepare you for your teaching experience and ensure that you are able to deliver the standard of teaching which your students deserve.
Teaching overseas without a TEFL qualification is a bit like jumping in at the deep end of the pool before you've learnt to swim. You'll be thrown into a completely foreign environment and you won't really know what to do. You'll also miss out on all the handy tips and advice that your tutor will dole out during the course placing you at a significant disadvantage.
A TEFL certification will not only open doors for you, but it will provide you with the skills, knowledge and confidence to lead a classroom. It is highly recommended that you attain a TEFL certification before embarking on your journey.
