About me
I grew up in Chicago where I used to listen to the stories my father's cousin (who taught in an international school) would tell about her time living in Brazil, Pakistan and the Philippines. I spent hours studying maps of the world and would dream about travelling to far flung locations.
My dream came true in 1992 when I arrived in Barcelona and did a TEFL certificate course. I then moved to Madrid where I worked at International House for four years and finished the RSA Diploma course. After that, I freelanced in private companies and completed an MA in Applied English Linguistics.
I have been working as an online tutor since 2002 and presently combine this work with freelance writing assignments and a part-time job as a high school teacher at a local school. I live outside Barcelona with my husband and three children.

Why I like teaching
It brings out the best in me by inspiring me to come up with different ways to get my students fired up about learning. Teaching provides a continuous challenge and always a learning experience. Being in touch with so many students over the years has thoroughly enriched my life.
My tips for new teachers
Don't be too hard on yourself. Effective teaching takes time and is a learning process. If you like it and are making an effort, you're on the right track.
Try to learn as much as you can from experienced teachers. If possible, observe their classes and don't feel shy about asking them to observe yours.
