About me

I am English and upon graduating from university in 1992, I went abroad to teach after getting my teaching certificate and have been lucky enough to work in many different countries. I came back to London in September 2009, worked as a trainer here and became an online tutor for i-to-i in October 2010.

Experience

I started teaching in 1992, having done summer school teaching for several years while at university. My first 2 years were in Athens, which was very interesting and I loved it. After that I went to New Zealand and Australia, where I taught foreign students for 2 years. Istanbul followed that and then Spain.

I joined The British Council in 2000, got the RSA Diploma in TEFL and worked with them for nearly 9 years as a trainer in India, Malaysia, Rome and finally I managed their corporate contracts at The British Council in Cairo. It was a wonderful experience and a great way of seeing the world!

Upon returning to London in September 2010 I joined International House Executive Centre, where I was teaching mainly foreign professionals from all over the world. I joined i-to-i last October

Tips for First Time TEFL Teachers

This line of work can really give you wonderful chances to see the world and experience different cultures firsthand. Students normally are very curious to know all about you and you can learn a lot from them too! It has provided me with some great opportunities. The one thing I think is important is to be open and eager to learn about and respect their cultures, no matter where you are.
