Having started his career in Asia, Brett has since spent a fair bit of time in the the Czech Republic and, more recently, the UK, before returning to Melbourne - because the coffee’s better!

How and why did you get into teaching English overseas?

I was an eager but aimless Arts student who was bitten by the language and travel bug at the same time. On my first job in Japan, I realised two things - one, that students are crying out for decent, qualified teachers and, two, that teaching brought me closer to the countries I was travelling through than sitting around in a hostel with other Australians. This encouraged me to develop my teacher skills more. Now here I am!

What do you most enjoy about the Weekend TEFL course?

It’s a thrill to see people develop such confidence in such a short period of time, and realising that something which seems so intimidating is, in fact, simple.
